What is REALLY in a NAME?  How can you choose what will be right for your business, your project, your blog?

Is the domain short, is it descriptive, or brandable? The choices are important!

The domain name is your web identity! 

Is the name memorable?  Is it short enough?  Is it easy to spell?  Generic, brandable?  Does the name have some history on the net? Older names may offer established value, and favor from the search engines. Are the keywords often searched for on the internet? Does the name connect to serve your business, product, service, event, or blog?

Perhaps you already have a web presence, but a name which may not serve you well.  Often a new name, within the same niche, may be substituted or  ”redirected” to your current site.

The domain is your web address, it is your cyber real estate, and it can grow in value with time.   

The name itself can also signify a great deal about you and your business.  In selecting the right address for your website, it is important to consider the purpose of the website and how the name will enhance your goals. Are you developing an authority site or providing information in a specific niche?  Is it a commercial site with a specific inventory?  Or is it a blog format, a social network, a news site?  How can the domain name meet the aims of the site?

Since the inception of the system of domain names, the most sought after Top Level Domain (TLD) is the .com extension.

There is great competition for strong .com domains.  The next most sought after domains are the .net and the .org extensions.
